The shortage of transportation in our primarily rural region creates extra challenges for people with developmental disabilities and their families. Your Service Coordinator is a good place to start to find out about transportation options.

Regionwide: The NH/VT American Red Cross Rural Rides program can provide rides to and from medical appointments for anyone in need. They serve areas of the Monadnock region on specific days (with some on-call capability). Calling ahead is necessary to schedule a ride: 800-244-2214 ext.120.

If you live in the Keene area, a valuable transportation option is the Keene City Express bus service, which operates two routes stopping at 16 locations in Keene.

If you live in the Eastern Monadnock region, Contoocook Valley Transportation Company (CVTC) provides RideShare, Volunteer Driver Networks and shuttle service. For information, or if you need a ride, call 1-877-428-2882.

For those with special needs, MDS has developed a transportation system that serves more than 100 people every day on a very tightly managed schedule. MDS Transportation operates daily (M-F) with five demand response routes, using five vans (three mini-vans, two wheelchair vans).

These MDS vehicles are also made available for those individuals requiring transportation after regular business hours and/or on weekends. All driving is by MDS employees.
