The
RESPECT Award
Family Council, MDS, and MCST Recognize Area Businesses that Show R.E.S.P.E.C.T.
The R.E.S.P.E.C.T. award honors those that embody the qualities of R.E.S.P.E.C.T. - building Relationships between an individual and his/her peers, as well as the community; Enriching the lives of all individuals; Supporting the strengths and skills of each employee; ensuring Partnerships with individuals and the community; Empowering individuals to be self-sufficient; Commitment to a life path that encompasses much more than a job; and building Trust to get through difficult times together. Each year, we focus the R.E.S.P.E.C.T. awards on a different group of people within our community. This year, that group of people is local businesses.
We received many nominations this year, which made selecting the winners difficult. Though all the nominations were compelling, four among them stood out as exemplary. They include three companies and one individual supervisor, whose overall commitment to the qualities of R.E.S.P.E.C.T. set them apart. The winners of the 2006 R.E.S.P.E.C.T. awards are:
The Keene Parks, Recreation and Facilities Department employs five individuals supported by Southwestern Community Services, Inc. These individuals enjoy a variety of work experiences and truly take pride in keeping Keene's parks clean and well maintained. They receive praise and support from the Department staff, as well as from the community members who enjoy the parks. One gentleman summed up his experience of working for the Keene Parks, Recreation and Facilities Department this way, "I really like my job, the people I work with and I never want to miss a day of work. We make a difference!"
Innerpac Northeast has worked closely with New Hope New Horizons to ensure the success of one of their employees. Not only has this employee worked at Innerpac Northeast for many years, he is also considered one of the "key" employees at the company. The entire team at Innerpac Northeast helps to support this individual. Beth Staudt of MDS is familiar with Innerpac and their commitment to the qualities of R.E.S.P.E.C.T. She told us, "Innerpac has shown total support of and complete dedication to him as a person and with his employment at Innerpac."
Suzanne Butcher, a parent of a child with a disability, nominated WV Engineering Associates for the R.E.S.P.E.C.T. "because of the company's openness to hiring persons with disabilities, its initiative in tailoring a position to match an employee's talents, its inclusion of part-time employees in many company benefits, and because it has worked through challenges with at least one employee." WV Engineering Associates recognized and valued the technical abilities of this particular employee, rather than only seeing the disability.
Melissa Dutile, a supervisor at Hannaford, went above and beyond her job responsibilities to ensure the success of one of her employees. She reached out to all the people involved in providing support to this young man, as well as encouraged other Hannaford employees to offer support. And after two years, her efforts have paid off. The young man she supervises is respected as an employee, colleague, member of the community, but most importantly, as the truly remarkable, courageous, and independent person that he has become.
We encourage you to congratulate this year's R.E.S.P.E.C.T. award winners. Their commitment to the qualities of R.E.S.P.E.C.T. is a reminder to us all to honor the gifts and assets that every individual possesses. Our community is fortunate to have so many businesses that are truly committed to the success of their employees.
